03-Heaven Hill kicking on Heaven’s Door (Spirits)
A lawsuit was filed last week in U.S. District Court against Chicago-based Heaven’s Door Spirits, which offers a collection of American whiskey co-created by musician Bob Dylan. Heaven Hill became aware of intent-to-use trademark applications for Heaven’s Door in August 2017 and issued a cease and desist letter April 25 after learning the company was launching a series of whiskey products. Attorneys representing Heaven Hill also said Heaven’s Door labels use similar color schemes to labels used by the Bardstown distillery, along with a “stacked format” similar to a brand logo used on some of Heaven Hill’s promotional materials. Heaven’s Door has until Sept. 10 to file an answer to the complaint.
